It’s easy to notice the differences between males and females. Look at the above photo. Sheba and Ranchie are the same age. There’s a lot of information online about personality differences between male and female Maine Coons, but I haven’t found it to be accurate. Both genders are amazing. Cats, like humans, each have their own personalities. Neither gender is more loyal or affectionate. I own a cattery and have seen over 100 Maine Coons in my career. In my experience, I’ve observed all types of personalities, and neither gender excels in loyalty, affection, outgoingness, intelligence, or the desire to be close to their family.

Paradise Valley (female) is the most affectionate cat I’ve ever owned. She literally jumps into my arms when I get home and stays by my side. I also have another female cat, Sheba, who is a completely loyal lap cat. She’s the second most loving cat I own. I must say, females tend to be leaders and need to be aware of their surroundings at all times. They are the bosses of the house/cattery. All my females have been exceptionally loyal to me and have a desire to be in charge. They have a sleek, regal appearance. Very prissy. I adore my females and want to highlight their equally lovely disposition as the males.

Ranchie (male) is HUGE. He is calm, tolerant, patient, intelligent, and playful. He also likes to be with me constantly. I’ve had 6 male Maine Coons, and none were lap cats or snugglers. They’re goofy, playful, happy, laid-back, intelligent, and loving. Males have large paws, tails, bodies, meows, trills, and litter box manners! Much bigger than females. Females are smaller but still larger than a standard domestic cat. I find males to be at least 30% larger than females in weight, length, and height. This isn’t to say “ALL males are larger than females” because females can get large, but not like the males.

In my experience, the primary difference between male and female Maine Coons is their size. Much like humans, each cat has its own distinct personality, health, and spirit. Maine Coons indeed exhibit the doglike personalities often mentioned, and this applies to both genders.
